- In Vedic myth one of the twelve Adityas or guardians of the months of the year. He must have been an early postcatastrophe god, as he was said to have ‘formed the sun, moon, sky, earth, air, and heaven as before.’ Later he became a minor deity concerned with healing and domestic felicity.
